Suggestive Sounds

When creating my art I have found that background suggestion through conversations, song lyrics, topics on YouTube videos, television programs, or radio programs can have a huge impact on my creation process.

The power of words is very important. Generally speaking, the individuals who are well read and very articulate will do very well for themselves in this world. The right word, spoken at the right time, using the correct tone and voice inflection can change the direction of your future.

An art that I do not seem to possess is to state something using a few words. I tend to ramble. I must thoroughly amuse myself with my ramblings because I never seem to stop telling the “long story - short”. I am a deep thinker so I do love to share my thoughts and hear what others have to say in return. I love to research, love to teach and love a good conversation.

Fascinated with Japanese prints, Japanese cuisine and Japanese haikus I did a little research and discovered the writings and poetry of Matsuo Bashō 松尾 芭蕉 who lived from 1644–1694 during the Edo period. He is now credited with making the Haiku form “main stream”.

Since reading his translated book, I have taken up the practice of writing a haiku for each piece . I am not sure that I want to share the haiku with others after the piece, since art matures in each person’s own eyes, so maybe this is something that I need to discuss with others to gain a consensus. I know that I LOVE a mystery.

Also, please excuse my extremely condensed definition of Wabi Sabi. An excellent book on the subject was written by Beth Kempton call Wabi Sabi-Japanese Wisdom for a perfectly imperfect life. But that is another blog post.

I hope that you enjoy the thoughts in this video.
